Sex life spiced up – by diabetes education

One diabetes charity has seen a sharp rise in men enrolling in its education sessions in a bid to improve their sex lives.

Research has shown that up to 75% of men with diabetes also suffer from erectile dysfunction.

Charity X-PERT Health believes this is one of the reasons for a recent surge in male participants in its self-management courses.

Dr Trudi Deakin, Chief Executive of X-PERT Health, said: “Many men are embarrassed to admit they’re suffering from erectile dysfunction so they are often reluctant to ask us about its link to their diabetes – but we are increasingly seeing men come forward and open up about this common problem in an effort to address it.”

She added: “Learning to manage your diabetes better and improve your health generally can have a hugely beneficial impact on your sex life.”

X-PERT Health’s six-week diabetes self-management programme is offered free to NHS patients across the UK. It helps people living with diabetes to take control of their condition by losing weight, increasing physical activity and controlling glucose, blood pressure and blood cholesterol levels.
