Dexcom Inc has announced that its G4® Platinum continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system will be able to be linked with the new Apple Watch™.

As the industry’s first mobile-connected system, the Dexcom CGM and its mobile apps, Share™2 and Follow, are already approved by the US Food and Drug Administration and allow both users and “followers” to view glucose data directly on their iPhone.

Now the device will also allow people with diabetes to discreetly view their own information on the Apple Watch, while parents and caregivers can conveniently view a child or loved one’s glucose data and be sent an alert if levels fall below the norm.

Currently, customers can download the Dexcom Share2 and Follow apps to their iPhone for free from the App Store. As of 24 April, when the Apple Watch is launched, the apps will also be available for free download from the Apple Watch App Store.

More information on the device can be found here.
