Diabetes drugs and renal impairment: Updated GPnotebook Shortcuts

Optimising glycaemic control is an important aspect of managing chronic kidney disease in people with diabetes; however, dose adjustments may be required to prevent adverse effects in renally impaired individuals. Moreover, certain diabetes drugs have now been approved for the treatment of renal disease and/or heart failure in people with or without type 2 diabetes. Kevin Fernando’s previous GPnotebook Shortcut summarising the indications and dosing recommendations of diabetes drugs in people with diabetes and renal impairment has now (October 2021) been updated. Owing to increasing complexity in the licensing and indications, the Shortcut has now been divided into two resources, to reflect glycaemic and non-glycaemic indications.
